What an inspiration all the winners were!

We had a fairly quiet afternoon at work so I wrote a poem based on a fashion model in one of the weekend mags. She is a pretty young woman dressed in a 1950s style dress and sitting on a beach that reminds me of the one at Brighton. She is very understated and all the more beautiful for that.

The Brighton Belle

She sits upon the myriad pebbles;
An ethereal Brighton Belle for sure.
Her head tilts towards the autumn rays;
Her fine spun hair all reddish brown.
Oh, how it lightly danceth in the breeze;
Sometimes to fall, to fall upon
Her pretty oval face; to fall, to fall,
To fall in love with grace.

Softly now her smile beguiles;
Her lips make crimson patterns
All 'oer her dress in lipstick kisses.
The seaside flowers guard this Eve
In fragile sentinel touching light
Against her crumpled fabric creases.
Distant spirits of the sea mist
Gather on the shore to praise this siren.
They dance in saline joy and skip
In gossomer sprays, their goddess to adore.
