Get a life Phil

by plowe @ 2006-01-30 - 12:23:13

My home computer is still broken :**: and is having Windows XP installed and the nice guy fixing it mentioned something about installing one of his old hard drives (I'm lost already). I just want the darn thing to work and to be able to blog, upload photos for flickr and do some writing and emailing, and not crash :##. However, having spent all last week without the beast in the house I was suprised how much I got done without the opportunity to play with it of an evening. ie: oooh, I'll just look if I've got any emails, oooh, I'll just see what's on eBay, oooh, I'll just see if anyone has commented on my photos or and whether any friends across the world sent me any nice emails. I think the words... "Get a life Phil" come into mind here.

In my defence I am now out most nights now rehearsing for Anna Karenina and I spent a lovely weekend cooking and chilling sans computer.:yes:

My shocking personal revelation

by plowe @ 2006-01-22 - 17:57:42

Is that… sometimes I can go without watching television for a whole day and even three days at an extreme push. I am also a complete non follower of Soaps and don’t give a toss what the empty headed and somewhat vacuous ‘Celebrities’ bleat and bitch about in the popular magazines. Victoria who? Also I can truthfully claim to have never ever watched one episode of Big Smother – sorry, Brother: wishful thinking creeping in there.

Am I alone?

How cool is this?

Variations on the source of sound

by plowe @ 2006-01-21 - 20:44:21

Varitions of the vibrational field

They touch you through the sound of the violin
and the deepening source of saxophonic sin;
the harmonic rythmn of the sound of love
and all the resonating gifts above.

Dear me back in the 1970s.

by plowe @ 2006-01-16 - 20:13:33

Dear myself as a 1970s teenage boy, I am writing you this letter to let you know some things about life and how to go forward and enjoy yourself. I am soon to become a fifty year old (yes, old enough to be your dad - and no baldy quips from you sonny) and I thought you wouldn't mind some wise words from the future. The catch is you will have to invent the internet and possibly a time travel machine. But then time travel always was of interest to you so that shouldn't be to much trouble Figgy.

So, as you sit there glued to Starksy and Hutch and The Champions think about these amazing things that are happening in 2006 that you may be able to relate to.

1. A lot of your curly hair fell out over the years but you still have those boyish good looks.

2. You are a lot more confident at 49 and yes you even talk to girls and women.

3. You finished with the Scouts many years ago but still have fond memories of those days.

4. Your heroes Leo Sayer, Elton John, Queen (most of 'em), Kate Bush and David Essex are still around and are much better than some of the cr*p that passes for music these days. There is some good stuff out there that has its origins in progressive rock and electronic music.

4. Long playing records (LPs) are much smaller these days and are called CDs and are silver coloured and you don't have to buy replacement needles any more and the old ones make good bird scarers in the garden.

4. £10 is no longer a weekly wage and we in the UK are still using a decimal currency and very few people equate it to 'old money'. as in "How much is that in old money?"

5. You have come a long way photographically since that cheap camera you once had with slot in films and cameras don't need film these days.

6. You still like to ride a bike but your body is a bit creaky these days.

6A.You get out of the butchery trade in your late thrities and go to University!

7. You never do go out with Adele Wallace from school but she does send you a 'I remember you' note on something called 'Friends Reunited' many years later. You are chuffed.

8. Keep up with the Am Dram as you become very good indeed and you are still practising it in 2006 and you get to play a lot of the parts you dreamed of playing and you even get to be on the telly for a while. Not in Starksy and Hutch however.

9. You may not believe it now but get it into your young 'Kung Fu obsessed' curly haired head that you are actually a very likeable young man and do yourself a few favours and start to believe it asap. PS: The constant vocal references to shrieking women in the Monty Python sketches can be a bit wearing after a while. Cool it Figgy and you might just attract a few girlfriends a bit quicker.

10. Just take my advice and my best wishes and think the best of everyone, don't be too judgemental and keep your great sense of humour and you will turn out ok.

11. W*nking is still a popular pastime in 2006.

I send this wisdom through the sky in fraction of a second to a screen near you. Don't believe it? just you wait and see. Manly hugs and love from your Back to the Future friend: the much older and wiser Phil (Figgy)Lowe.

Laugh, I nearly dropped my bus ticket!

by plowe @ 2006-01-16 - 14:22:48

This will only be amusing to fans of the tv programme The League of Gentlemen. This morning I was waiting for my bus and a little bus appeared at the village bus stop. The bus service was called Local Link. and even better than it had 'local buses for local people' on the side. lol

:))

What a fabulous thing the internet is

by plowe @ 2006-01-14 - 16:59:55

'How to get friends and be influenced by people' maybe that's what the internet should be called. I have physically and electronically met so many nice people so far through flickr and blogging it is mind boggling. At the click of a button and some bad typing I can converse and potentially get to meet folk from all over the world. For those of you who I have had the pleasure of meeting so far, bless you all and I hope you will all join me in my virtual blogathon on my 50th birthday at the end of February.

Phil :)

A love poem for today

by plowe @ 2006-01-14 - 16:52:29

A Fond Kiss

A fond kiss, and then we sever;
A farewell, and then forever!
Deep in heart-wrung tears I'll pledge thee,
Warring sighs and groans I'll wage thee.
Who shall say that Fortune grieves him,
While the star of hope she leaves him?
Me, nae cheerfu' twinkle lights me;
Dark despair around benights me.
I'll ne'er blame my partial fancy,
Nothing could resist my Nancy;
But to see her was to love her;
Love but her, and love forever.
Had we never lov'd say kindly,
Had we never lov'd say blindly,
Never met--or never parted--
We had ne'er been broken-hearted.
Fare thee well, thou first and fairest!
Fare thee well, thou best and dearest!
Thine be like a joy and treasure,
Peace. enjoyment, love, and pleasure!
A fond kiss, and then we sever;
A farewell, alas, forever!
Deep in heart-wrung tears I'll pledge thee,
Warring sighs and groans I'll wage thee!

Tonight's the night

by plowe @ 2006-01-12 - 14:50:53

I am off to see Alvin Hall tonight!

I nearly burnt some more toast last night

I am out nearly every night of the week now rehearsing

The night is when it is dark

Batman is the dark knight

I can be too random for words at times ( mostly at night)

Sleep well tonight

There are times when....

by plowe @ 2006-01-10 - 01:18:06

There are times when.....

Standing half cut in the bus station of one's dreams, or nightmares you wish to encapsulate the essence of the neon world reflected in the left hand side of one's vision; the world of sliding trams glow wormimg across the void and the reflection (refers to dictionary for spell check, actuellment en anglaise ) celluloid ( two ls) depicts the cinematic perfection of that 'comin' home' moment. IE: I'm a bit pissed but somewhat poetic and wish I could have a handy video camera or hyper-notebook to concentrate and collect my impressions of life passing me by. Sadly not and the bus speeds on towards its late night village destination. Good night and much burnt toast later. Snooze well and good dreams. Phil

Bleach and more bleach

by plowe @ 2006-01-09 - 10:36:34

Duh, done it again! On one of my recent shopping trips I realised I had run out of bleach for the bathroom bottle was empty. So I get some more.

Yesterday, in one of my mad domstic moments I decided to clean around the house and the cupboards only to discover I already had two bottles of bleach already tucked away at the back of the space under the kitchen sink! That's three I've got now.

How many times have you brought something to discover you already have some at home? My favourite used to be tubes of tomato puree.

Call me crazy but........

by plowe @ 2006-01-08 - 20:09:45

I found a postcard on Ebay tonight sent from Bordeaux to an English person (a complete stranger to me) in 1935 with an image I am familiar with of the Grand Theatre Bordeaux.

If I am succesful with my bid I am going to send this vintage postcard to my French friend Veronique who lives in Bordeaux as a poetic gesture regarding the amicable connection there has been between the English and the French in the region of Aquitaine since Richard the Lionheart's mother was there.This is because she made me so welcome when I met her last year on holiday through the flickr site.

Wish me 'bon chance'.

Phil

oh no i've got hooked on EBay

by plowe @ 2006-01-08 - 17:01:44

Already ordered (or won) four dvds and a book about Ebay and waiting to hear about a Scouts book that I used to have in my teenage years.

What have you won on Ebay and was the delivery ok?

Do you sell things on Ebay?

Waiting with Ebayted breath to hear your stories.

Phil

Do you reeeeeally neeed that?

by plowe @ 2006-01-05 - 09:54:04

Hey, so excited as i have managed to get a ticket to see Alvin Hall (inspirational financial guru)in Nottingham next week. he is one of my heroes.

Go ahead, make my day

by plowe @ 2006-01-04 - 23:28:48

There is a saying that great things sometime come in little packages and this unexpected little package of heartfelt words arrived today on my flickr site from my Nottingham based friend Rick and it made my New Year! Thanks again Rick, it really did cheer me up and made me feel that life was great to share it with such a lovely fella as you and your fiance Janette.

"What a wonderful human being, not only a great eye for artistic composition, but also very entertaining company. Phil has a warm heart and sparkling sense of humour that translates well into his photos. I feel Phil is limited only by the bounds of technology and has huge potential to produce wonderfully artistic pieces.

Well travelled, well versed and multilingual, Phil has a great take on life based on his experiences which help greatly in his comments and with his blog (which also happens to be an entertaining read).

Thanks for letting me be part of your world Phil, and I look forward to the next time we meet."

Footprints

by plowe @ 2006-01-04 - 23:15:32

A poem I recently entered for a regional poetry competition.

Footprints

Feet now tram-walk in the sky
above a lost Weekday Cross
railway line that D. H Lawrence
may once have taken,
bearded and coughing,
down to the ‘big smoke’,
his thin frame choking
from the Eastwood coal-coke.

Feet now turn in the snow
and time pulls back its folds;
A gossamer thin second passes;
a lost train station, lost to time,
lost to rhythm and rhyme now
whispers of ‘first class’ Edwardian
splendour, of Lace cream, cream teas
and a railway red Nottingham to
London dream.

Some good news

by plowe @ 2006-01-04 - 10:14:59

I went for a second audition last night and got the lead male role of Konstantin Levin in Anna Karenina a play version of Tolstoy's novel written by Helen Edmundson. :D

Happy New Year

by plowe @ 2006-01-01 - 16:47:31

T Rex is playing loudly on my CD player. I have a glass of red French wine and all is well with the world.

Two things:

1. My New Year resolutions are to be less selfish, be more generous with my time and love and to have a great time.
