  • Funny the stuff you find on the internet by entering your own name

Apparently there are lots of Phil Lowes; an actor but not me, a theatre director, but not me, a famous rugby player, certainly not me! And me!

I laughed my socks off when I found this site from the days when I was an extra in the TV soap Crossroads 2001.

    Enjoy.

  • Basically- you know what I mean?

I was out and about the other day and I overheard this bloke on his mobile in a cafe. As I sat, a few tables away from him, nursing my cuppa, I heard him loudly chatting to a mate. He was on the phone for about ten minutes and said the word 'basically' or 'base-ick-li' more than thirty times! What is it with this word, basically? :??:After using it once it loses its impact, rather like the cup of hot tea I wanted to pour over his mobile, basically! Do ya know wot ah mean?

Now there's another one. 'Do ya know wot ah mean?'

Yes I do know what you mean! It means, basically you could be lacking a brain.lol

  • A Christmas Carol adapted by Phil Lowe

I am a member of the Lace Market Theatre in Nottingham and have acted there for about 18 years now since I moved to Nottingham to do a degree in the performing arts. This December I am proud to say that the company are performing in a stage production adapted and written by me of Charles Dickens 'A Christmas Carol'and it is on in a month's time. As you can imagine I am very excited about this and I have been watching it evolve from the page (it took three months to adapt) to the stage. As I write today, this coming Monday will be the first time that the cast and director and technical folk have an opportunity to use our actual stage to rehearse. As the writer I have been to some of the early rehearsals and agreed to some written changes (nothing major!)and for a week or so have taken a back seat and let them get on with it.

If anyone reading this lives near Nottingham and wants to see the show here is a link to the Lace Market Theatre website. The matinee has sold out already!

  • love food hate waste

I heard something on the radio this morning about a survey that was done of late about the phenomenal amount of food we waste per houshold. :`( A lot of it is things like buying bread and ham and cheese and stuff in order to make ourselves a cheap lunch and then when we get up of a morning we can't be bothered. So what do we do? We buy lunch out costing about three or four quid and in the next couple of days we throw the things in the fridge out and chuck the slightly mouldy bread! Crazy huh? And this is just one incident of wasting good food. We all do it and I certainly know I've done it. So, why the blog?

Well, yours truely is watching the pennies at the moment as I am still out of work. What I have decided to do as an experiment is to see how long I can last just using up the bits and pieces I have stored in my cupboards and fridge. I will allow myself to buy fresh veg and I am going to be strict with myself about 'just nipping' to the local Co-op to get a pizza or such. And that includes my habit of getting a couple of beers while i'm there too. Wish me luck!

Anybody else got any good ideas for an economy drive with food?
